Frequently Asked Questions (v 1.18)

Q. How can I make a second call without having to dial my ISP again?

A. Without hanging up the phone after the first call, press the button on the Y@P

Jack once and the voice will prompt you to continue your current session.

Q. If I acquire a new Net2Phone account number (or a new ISP access

number, etc.), do I need to reenter all of my information again?

A. No. All you need to do is change that one piece of information.

Q. What do I do if I need to dial a 9 before the ISP dialup number?

A. Enter the 9 when you enter the ISP local access number in the configuration

menu. Enter 9 *, followed by the phone number, followed by the pound sign “#”.

(The * acts as a pause in the dialing.)

Q. How can I disable call waiting?

A. To disable call waiting, press the button on the Y@P Jack, press 5 for the

configuration menu, then press 8 to get to the EXTENDED MENU. Next, press

25 on the phone keypad. This will allow you to enter the call waiting disabling

code (usually this number is "*70" [without the quotes]. This number may vary

depending where you live). After you enter the code, activate the code by typing

in 26 on the phone. A second method of disabling call waiting is to enter *70

prior to the ISP dialup number.

Q. Once I enter the phone number that I am dialing, hit the pound sign, and

hang up, it takes about 40 seconds until the unit rings me back.

A. This is completely normal. The unit requires approximately 40 seconds to dial up

to the Internet, establish the connection and then connect to the Net2Phone

servers. If it takes more than 2 minutes to connect, odds are it will not connect at

all.

Q. Can I make calling card calls (phone-to-phone) with my Y@P account

information (from the back of my Y@P Time Card)?

A. Sure! Use your account number and PIN to make long distance calls and

continue to rack up the savings

Q. How do I know how much money I have left in my account?

A. After the Y@P Jack rings back to signify an established connection, the Y@P

Jack will announce your remaining balance.

Q. Can I leave my Y@P Jack plugged into the wall jack all the time?

A. Yes. The Y@P Jack is designed to stay connected to your telephone line and will

not interfere with your regular phone calls. You can also use your Y@P Jack on

the same line as an answering machine.

Q. Can I connect my Y@P Jack to a digital PBX?

A. No. The Y@P Jack is not compatible with a digital PBX line and may be

damaged if connected to a digital PBX line. If you wish to use your Y@P Jack

with a digital PBX phone system, you must use an analog-to-digital modem

converter.

Q. Will my cordless phone work with the Y@P Jack?

A. Yes. Cordless phones are compatible with the Y@P Jack. Simply connect the

cord to the same phone jack that you would a regular phone.

alphanumeric key codes. What can I do?

A. Click here and go to our Help and Support page.

Q. When I enter my account number, the unit tells me that the account number

is invalid. What is wrong?

A. There are two possibilities. The most likely is that you entered it in incorrectly.

However, if you have an older Net2Phone account number that is 12 digits, this

too will return the error message. Contact Y@P technical support to obtain a

different account number.

Q. After I enter my ISP information (login and/or password) and I review what I

entered, some characters were not saved.

A. When entering the ISP login and/or password information, after each numeric

character that you enter, you must hit the pound key (#) to make sure that the

character is saved. If you have entered the character correctly, the voice prompt

will return "x entered" (where x is the alphanumeric key that you entered).

Q. Can I use a fax machine with my Y@P Jack?

A. No. You cannot use a fax machine with your Y@P Jack.

Q. How do I dial a number with the Y@P Jack?

A. As with all YAP products, you should dial as though you are in the United States.

Therefore when calling a number in New Jersey, for example, dial 1-201-555-

1212. To call a number outside of North America, dial 011 + country code +

city code + number. Remember to always end the number dialed with the

pound sign (#) to signify to the unit to initiate the call.

Q. I use AOL as my Internet Service Provider (ISP), but it does not work with

the Y@P Jack.

A. The Y@P Jack will not work with AOL as the Y@P Jack requires an ISP

that utilizes Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).

Q. My Y@P Jack has very low audio. What might be the problem?

A. There are two things that one should check if they are experiencing low audio on

the Y@P Jack. First and foremost, check the volume on the phone. The second

possibility is that the unit was damaged by putting the wall wire into the phone port

and vice versa. If this is in fact the case the unit cannot be repaired.

Q. How do I dial a number when I use my Y@P Jack?

A. After you press the Y@P Jack button, simply press one (1) to dial another phone

and then enter the phone number you wish to call.

Q. What do I do to receive a Y@P Jack to Y@P Jack call?

A. After you press the Y@P Jack button, simply press 3 on the telephone keypad

and listen to the voice prompts.

Q. What number do I call when I want to call another Y@P Jack?

A. The account number on the back of the time card that came with your Y@P Jack

is also your virtual number. If you want to make a call from your Y@P Jack to

another, you must dial the other Y@P Jack’s virtual number, *72+virtual number.

The same applies if someone wants to use a Y@P Jack to place a call to your

Y@P Jack; that caller has to dial your virtual number

Q. Do I need a computer to use a Y@P Jack?

A. No, the Y@P Jack works through a standard phone line. It dials your ISP and

rings you back to complete your call.

Q. If the Y@P Jack does not work through a computer, then how do I set it up?

A. The Y@P Jack is configured through a succession of voice prompts over an

attached telephone.

Q. What equipment do I need to use a Y@P Jack?

A. All you need is a standard analog telephone and an account with a compatible  Internet service provider that works with the PPP protocol. This is the standard method

of dialing in to the Internet.

Q. Can I make regular phone calls without disconnecting the Y@P Jack?

A. Yes, the Y@P Jack only functions when you press the button on the top of the

box. Otherwise, you can use the attached phone normally.

Q. I configured my Y@P Jack, but when I try to make a call, the phone only

says "Internet Access Failed." What is wrong?

A. Most likely, some of the information was not entered correctly. In order to check

your ISP information, you must go to the configuration menu by pressing 5, and

then press 7. This will read off all of the information that was entered previously

so as to ensure that all of your information is correctly entered.

Q. Does the Y@P Jack work internationally?

A. Yes, the Y@P Jack will work anywhere in the world as long as your Internet

provider uses the PPP standard. (An international power adapter may be

necessary.)
